After graduating from Leicester with a BA (Honours) in English and History, I moved to London and was awarded a PGCE (Secondary) in English at Roehampton Institute. My first teaching post was in South East London. Here I taught both English Language and English Literature up to GCSE level.
After five years, I decided to work abroad. I obtained a TEFL Certificate from International House and moved to Barcelona. Initially, I worked in an Academy teaching Cambridge Examinations (Advanced to Proficiency) to teenagers. After three years, I secured a teaching position in a school in the private sector where I continued to teach the Cambridge Examinations to students from the ages of 11 to 18.
As a family, we decided to return to England after over 17 years of living in Spain. I applied for a Teacher of English post in a Community College near Exeter. I worked there for a total of 16 years teaching English Language and English Literature up to GCSE level.
Since taking early retirement, I have tutored students, on a one to one basis, for GCSE English. I have also worked as a supply teacher at a local school.
